  • Fayetteville's Outlaws Horse Club, founded 28 years ago by Jody Lindsey, teaches local youth and adults about horse culture, responsibility and respect through hands-on care. The club will host an adult-only event Aug. 30 and plans a breast cancer awareness event Oct. 4 at Rockfish Seafood Smoke Pit & Bar to offer a positive outlet for the community.  The Fayetteville Observer

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Yesterday, Maj. Gen. Brandon Tegtmeier took command of the 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg—succeeding Maj. Gen. James 'Pat' Work, who led the unit since November—and the ceremony marked a new chapter for the division as it prepares for its future tasks.  ABC 11

HEALTH NEWS

  • Methodist University and Cape Fear Valley Health plan a new medical school in Fayetteville to ease the local doctor shortage, with the first class of 64 students set to start in July pending accreditation in October. The school will offer local residency programs to help keep new doctors in the community—though planned Medicaid cuts may challenge the initiative.  CityView
