Longtime Fayetteville reporter Gilbert Baez became the new host of Good Morning, Fayetteville on 640 WFNC radio Monday, replacing retired host Jeff Goldberg.

Baez returned to his radio roots and brings decades of local experience from TV and radio—offering a fresh voice for the community.

A body found in the Cape Fear River in downtown Fayetteville on Tuesday was identified as 51-year-old Gregory Scott Webster, a missing Fuquay-Varina man last seen on Feb.

8 when he left his home on Old Mill Road; his abandoned vehicle was found on River Bend Road and scientists located his remains around 2:30 on March 18 amid fallen trees and debris.

Fayetteville marked the bicentennial of Marquis de Lafayette's American tour by hosting historic reenactments, period dances, and themed dinners on March 4 and March 5.

Gov. Josh Stein visited Ferguson-Easley Elementary on March 20 to explain his plan for schools that will raise teacher pay, add free breakfast, boost mental health support and use a $4 billion school bond to fix old, crowded buildings.

Local leaders said new funds will help but stressed the need to repair and maintain existing facilities—calling for steady investment in both new projects and upkeep.

North Carolina Gov. Josh Stein proposed a state budget that allocates millions for Fayetteville projects—such as $10 million to repair the veterans home and funds to grow Fayetteville State’s programs—and he met local school officials yesterday to urge lawmakers to raise teacher pay and boost public education investments.

Twenty-one Fayetteville high school baseball and softball players have committed to college teams from Division I to community colleges, including athletes from Terry Sanford and Freedom Christian.
