- ➤ Local grocery stores in Fayetteville will have different Thanksgiving Day hours with some offering limited service while others remain closed. Stores such as Carlie C’s IGA, Food Lion, The Fresh Market, Harris Teeter, and Sprouts will open with shortened hours—others like Aldi, BJ’s, Lidl, Publix, Sam’s Club, Target, and Walmart will be closed. - ➤ The Greater Fayetteville Chamber Military Affairs Council and Fort Bragg Armed Services YMCA will host a food drive on Nov 20 from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the Highland Shopping Center parking lot — Operation Patriot Pantry will collect non-perishable food, baby items and hygiene products for service members, families and veterans with money troubles. - ➤ Students at Bill Hefner Elementary School have set up a hurricane relief drive to collect canned foods, clothes, and handwritten notes to help families in Jamaica hit by Hurricane Melissa — the drive will run until Dec. 12 as teachers and students work to support those needing essential supplies. - ➤ The county is reviewing proposals to operate a temporary emergency shelter after the Salvation Army closed its Fayetteville shelter in April due to funding issues—new leadership says finances are stable and maintenance issues have been fixed, with an inspection scheduled the week of Nov 17.
