- ➤ Cumberland County Animal Services runs a new volunteer program called Mutts on the Move that helps shelter dogs get exercise and meet people. On Oct.10, volunteers walked 32 adoptable dogs at the campus—volunteer numbers doubled since the program started in August and plans call for weekday and Saturday meet-ups. CityView

- ➤ A false active shooter report triggered a code red lockdown at Fayetteville Technical Community College's Spring Lake campus on Monday, Oct. 13, 2025—police and campus security found no threat and allowed students and staff to resume normal activities. CityView
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Fayetteville will host the free Dogwood Fall Festival at Festival Park on Oct. 18-19, featuring car shows, rides, and live music by The Verve Pipe, Marcy Playground, and Clejan. Organizers said the event starts at 11 a.m. Saturday — with VIP tickets offering extra benefits — and continues with family activities — including special seating and meet-and-greets — throughout the weekend. - ➤ North Carolina’s Medical Debt Relief Program relieved over $6.5 billion in medical debt for more than 2.5 million residents, officials said — letters explaining the relief will be sent in the coming days. Gov. Josh Stein noted that the program, which uses federal Medicaid funds, is designed to help future patients and is expected to continue reducing the debt burden. WRAL
- ➤ A No Kings rally will take place at the Cross Creek Linear Park Fountain on Green Street downtown from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 18—local leaders and activists will speak on rights and stopping abuse of power while urging protestors to stay peaceful and leave weapons at home.
