CULTURE NEWS

  • Fayetteville glam-rock band Punk Angels won the Best Rock Music Video award at the Carolina Music Video Awards on Sept. 21 for their song 'Sleeze Machine'—marking their first major recognition—and will release their debut album 'Angels With Dirty Face' by the end of 2025. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Fayetteville’s primary election showed incumbent Mayor Mitch Colvin leading Kathy Jensen by over 4,000 votes out of more than 14,000 voters, making it hard for Jensen to close the gap. Early voting begins on Oct. 16 and Election Day is Nov. 4—several City Council seats open as incumbents enter the mayor’s race.  The Fayetteville Observer
  • CityView sent questionnaires to candidates for Hope Mills mayor and board of commissioners as part of the 2025 municipal election coverage—the general election is on Nov. 4 with no primary held.  CityView

HEALTH NEWS

  • Work crews have started testing the soil for lead around Fort Bragg's historic on-post family housing as a proactive follow-up to an EPA request—residents whose homes are chosen for the tests have been notified by Corvias and will be informed if lead levels exceed safe thresholds.  CityView

SPORTS NEWS

  • NC State basketball’s Darrion Williams said the ACC used the wrong photo at media days, and that mistake has fueled the Wolfpack’s drive to improve this season—officials later apologized for the error. Coach Will Wade and teammate Ven-Allen Lubin joined him as the team prepares to show its strength in upcoming games.  The Fayetteville Observer
  • Duke, UNC and NC State are preparing for the 2025 to 2026 ACC women’s basketball season amid fierce Triangle rivalries and challenging non-conference schedules—Duke returns 10 letter winners including ACC Rookie of the Year Toby Fournier while NC State relies on young players and UNC rebuilds after losing nearly 60 percent of last season's production.  The Fayetteville Observer
  • UNC football coach Bill Belichick said he is fully committed to the team as athletics director Bubba Cunningham confirmed full support amid a rough start following three heavy losses—UNC will play Cal on Oct. 17 at 10:30 p.m. on ESPN while questions about the program’s future remain.  The Fayetteville Observer
