- ➤ This October, Fayetteville will host a gothic horror season as New Fire Theatre Company performs Frankenstein and Dracula on Oct 9, 10, and 11 at 200 Mason Street—further featuring a new film by Guillermo del Toro and a screening of the classic Frankenstein (1931) on Oct 24 that invite audiences to explore Mary Shelley’s tale in different forms. - ➤ Cape Fear Studios is hosting the 2025 6 By Exhibit at 148 Maxwell Street through Nov. 25, featuring 43 art pieces by visual, 2D, and 3D artists. The exhibit runs Tuesday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.—admission is free. Up & Coming Weekly
- ➤ The Cameo Art House Theatre, a beloved cinema venue in downtown Fayetteville for 25 years, will become non-profit CAMEO Collective in January 2026—expanding its mission to include live performances, arts education and community programs. - ➤ On Saturday, Oct. 11 at 4:30 p.m., the Cameo Art House Theatre will show Chaplin’s The Great Dictator—a 1940 satirical film that uses humor to criticize dictatorship. - ➤ Brenda McNair and Kathy A. Greggs advanced to the general election for Fayetteville City Council District 7 after receiving 1,017 and 205 votes respectively in the Oct. 7 primary, while two other candidates finished with fewer votes. The Cumberland County Board of Elections will certify the results on Oct. 14—both candidates are now preparing for the next round. The Fayetteville Observer
- ➤ Fayetteville voters on Tuesday narrowed the field for mayor from 10 candidates to two—incumbent Mitch Colvin and council member Kathy Keefe Jensen. Colvin received over 47 percent of the vote while Jensen earned 18 percent, and they will face off in the general election on Nov. 4. WRAL
- ➤ Unverified results from Oct. 7 show that incumbent Malik Davis received 1,077 votes—leading the race—and Gail Morfesis got 406 while Joey Thames received 243, sending Davis and Morfesis to the general election in Fayetteville Council District 2. Morfesis stressed a need for fiscal responsibility and open government, and the Cumberland County Board of Elections will certify the vote on Oct. 14. The Fayetteville Observer
- ➤ Incumbent Deno Hondros and newcomer Joe McGee advanced to the general election for Fayetteville City Council District 9 after receiving the highest vote counts in the primary on Oct. 7. The Cumberland County Board of Elections will certify the results on Oct. 14. The Fayetteville Observer
- ➤ Drivers in Cumberland County must stop when a school bus activates its flashing red lights and mechanical stop signal for student pick-up and drop-off—on two-lane roads all traffic must halt while on divided highways only vehicles following the bus are required to stop. The district used 398 buses when classes resumed on Aug. 25 and NC law ensures the safety of students crossing streets. The Fayetteville Observer
- ➤ Hope Mills commissioners voted 3—2 Monday to censure board member Elyse Craver for alleged racially discriminatory remarks, and they also approved a 4—1 vote to hire attorney Mac McCarley to investigate claims of a hostile work environment; Craver defended herself, calling the action an election ploy. The board scheduled its next meeting for 7 p.m. on Oct. 20 at Town Hall. CityView
