CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Two campaign workers for candidate Mario Benavente filed complaints after a heated argument at an early voting site on Monday morning—complaints allege that campaign worker Runae Montgomery and Deja Deanna Royal exchanged offensive remarks and harassment, and the State Board of Elections is now reviewing the incident. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Fayetteville State University homecoming is coming next week and will feature dozens of official and unofficial events for Broncos—activities include sports, concerts, and parades on campus and downtown. The schedule runs from Sunday, Oct 5 through Sunday, Oct 12 and includes a parade starting at 9 a.m. Saturday and a football game at Luther Nick Jeralds Stadium beginning at 1:30 p.m. Saturday. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Gov. Stein signed Iryna’s Law, which changes criminal justice rules and now requires his office to plan how to restart executions by firing squad or another method—following a fatal Charlotte stabbing that raised public safety concerns. The law also revises pretrial procedures with more oversight on bail and mental health evaluations, though Stein said it does not fully address safety issues. WRAL

- ➤ Eric Tulsky, now in his second season as Hurricanes GM, said he built a deep team with key signings like Jaccob Slavin, Seth Jarvis and K'Andre Miller — with about $10M in cap space — to set the stage for a Stanley Cup push.
