  • Today, the National Hurricane Center is tracking a tropical wave off Africa that has a 40% chance of forming into a tropical depression by mid next week as it moves across the Atlantic—forecasters say it is too early to know if North Carolina will be affected, so residents should stay alert for further updates.  The Fayetteville Observer

  • September is Emergency Preparedness Month as Garry Crumpler, the new director of Cumberland County Emergency Services, urged residents, businesses and schools to review their emergency plans and stock up on supplies for up to seven days.   • At Monday night’s meeting, Spring Lake commissioners approved a $639,800 budget amendment—allocating nearly $475,000 for street repairs on Third Street, $165,000 for stormwater improvements on Hedgemoor Circle, and $78,000 for drive-up kiosks to pay water bills. Commissioner Robyn Chadwick raised concerns over potential job losses in the water department, and the board will meet again on Monday, Sept 22 at Spring Lake Town Hall.  CityView
