  • Cape Fear Regional Theatre opened its season on Saturday night with 9 to 5: The Musical, a funny and lively show based on the classic film. EDUCATION NEWS

  • State test scores for the 2024-25 school year show 27 Cumberland County schools on the low-performing list—up from 15 last year—with some schools showing gains and one, Douglas Byrd Middle, receiving an F. District leaders will soon share a plan to boost scores as superintendent Dr. Eric C. Bracy stressed that every student must be ready for life.  The Fayetteville Observer

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Fayetteville City Council voted 8-2 on Monday to renew the city's ShotSpotter contract for $220,500 for one year, keeping the technology in key neighborhoods such as Massey Hill and the Murchison Road corridor. Some council members raised concerns over its accuracy and bias—leading to a plan to review the data gathered this term.  CityView
  • Cumberland County commissioners are reviewing options for the canceled Crown Event Center site and asking residents to submit ideas for redeveloping the free parking lot in front of the courthouse via an online survey open until September 14. The board will discuss paying the remaining $3.8M bill from preliminary construction at a meeting at 1 p.m. Thursday—guiding future development plans.  CityView

  • N.C. State quarterback CJ Bailey has emerged as a standout leader — his stronger voice and poise have helped the Wolfpack win close games.
