CRIME NEWS

  • A state trooper on I-295 in Fayetteville was targeted Tuesday night when gunshots hit his patrol vehicle—damaging its front bumper and tires—and on September 3rd two people were arrested for firing at him and for driving the fleeing car.  ABC 11

  • On June 26, the Cooperativa Latino Credit Union opened a modern branch at 121 Bonanza Drive in Fayetteville to offer accessible financial services tailored for the Latino community. The new facility provides bilingual education and fair loan options—helping members with nontraditional documentation overcome common banking challenges.  CityView

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Fort Bragg officials announced that Manchester Road from Morganton Road to Lamont Road will close for repaving starting Sept. 8—drivers should use King Road or N.C. 211—and that a western bypass near Nursery Road is planned to ease traffic from Moore County commuters. Officials said that repairs at the All American gate—designed to fix the bumpy roadway and bridge—could cost about $20 million and take 18 to 24 months.  The Fayetteville Observer
  • U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson visited Fayetteville State University on September 4 and spoke about her family background, career path, and memoir 'Lovely One'—detailing how family support shaped her journey to the high court—during an event hosted by Fayetteville Area Habitat for Humanity in front of more than 1,000 people.  CityView

  • Fayetteville high school football is off to a strong start as Eric Payne of Jack Britt has rushed 290 yards and Jayson Franklin of Seventy-First posted 346 yards and five touchdowns while teams like Terry Sanford and Gray's Creek hold 2-0 records—boosting excitement for the competitive 2025 season.
