Fayetteville’s Running Water Powwow will be held on Sept.
6 at 200 Indian Drive and will feature Native song, dance, food and artisans showcasing traditional crafts — competitions and cultural activities will welcome visitors to experience Indigenous heritage and traditions.

U.S. Sen. Thom Tillis told local leaders at the State of the Community event on Aug.
26 that they must not rest on their laurels but should keep pursuing ways to boost the local economy—calling for more federal support for projects like the airport expansion. He stressed that continued investment and proactive decision-making are vital to overcoming current challenges and securing future growth.
Fayetteville City Council voted 7-3 to approve the rezoning of a 2.1-acre lot in the College Lakes neighborhood so a 7-Eleven can be built, despite residents' concerns about traffic and environmental risks—developers will now finalize plans and seek permits for the project.
The change shifts the area from single-family residential to limited commercial use and ends a five-month dispute over the zoning request.

Fayetteville will host the 10th Annual Man 22 Suicide Awareness Run at Festival Park on Sept.
13 to honor service members lost to suicide. Founded by Army veteran Rick Rngr Murillo, the event will include a 2.22 mile run and 22 pushups—actions that raise awareness and offer local support for veteran mental health.
Cape Fear Valley Health received a $1.5 million grant from The Duke Endowment to support start-up operational costs for the new Methodist University Cape Fear Valley School of Medicine located at the Cape Fear Valley Medical Center campus.
The funding will build early infrastructure—critical for training the first 64 students set to begin in 2026 pending approval by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education.
