  • A CSX cargo train carrying coal derailed outside Enfield in Halifax County today—causing Amtrak to cancel routes from New York to Raleigh and from Washington, D.C. to Raleigh—and officials reported no injuries or environmental harm.  WRAL

CRIME NEWS

  • One person died and two others were injured in a shooting on Sunday evening at the 7100 block of Chinoak Drive—police are investigating the incident.  ABC 11

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Students at Village Christian Academy, Pine Forest and Fayetteville Academy work on yearbooks and newspapers that teach journalism skills like photography, writing and design — skills used to document local events. They commit to work during evenings, weekends and summer months — gaining experience for future media careers while preserving school memories.  CityView
