  • The 61-year-old YMCA is facing rising repair costs and ongoing issues like failing air conditioning and leaks that threaten its free and low-cost services for over 2,100 members. Members have asked county and city officials for help while management plans a fee increase next year—further support is needed to keep the facility operating.  CityView

CULTURE NEWS

  • Today, the Airborne & Special Operations Museum celebrates its 25th anniversary and National Airborne Day with a ceremony honoring the 250th anniversary of the Liberty Tree and featuring colonial-era activities, military demonstrations and live music. The event hosted by the 18th Airborne Corps begins at 8 a.m. at Hay and Hillsboro streets and runs until noon.  The Fayetteville Observer

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Cumberland County Schools banned cellphone use in classrooms starting Aug 13 to help students focus on learning — the district said staff will give warnings and then confiscate devices if they are not put away, and families are asked to call the school office for urgent matters.   • On Friday, Fayetteville State University held Operation Smooth Move to help new Broncos and their parents settle into campus housing. Faculty, student staff and families all helped out—making the move in day smooth and welcoming.  ABC 11

HEALTH NEWS

  • C-FORT, the Cumberland County opioid response team, distributed naloxone kits on Aug. 11 along Bragg Boulevard, Cedar Creek Road and U.S. 301 to help residents reverse opioid overdoses. The county will expand its naloxone distribution plan, which data shows has helped lower overdose death rates by 24%—supporting community safety and timely response.  CityView
