ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A tractor-trailer overturned Monday near I-95 in Fayetteville and spilled debris and bent metal onto an access road, with a ramp closed before 6:45 a.m. near N.C. Highway 24, while Sky 5 filmed the upside down truck with serious damage at 7:30 a.m.—traffic on the interstate moved freely.  WRAL

CULTURE NEWS

  • The annual Fayetteville Greek Festival will be held Sept.20 and 21 at Sts. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church—offering authentic Greek food, live music, dancing and church tours for the community. A grant from the Fayetteville Art Council supports cultural exhibits and interactive experiences that benefit church ministries and local charities.  The Fayetteville Observer

  • Retired Army Major Clifton Johnson, a Fayetteville native, announced his candidacy for mayor and said his military background and team-building strategy will unite city+county leaders to boost economic growth and shift local policies if elected.  The Fayetteville Observer
  • Fayetteville Mayor Mitch Colvin filed for reelection on July 18 because he said the city needs stable leadership—he will face nine challengers and plans to continue key projects like Fayetteville 2050 and public safety programs.  The Fayetteville Observer
  • Fayetteville and Cumberland County government have shared a guide on current leaders and meeting times—Fayetteville’s city council has nine members and a mayor with elections in November while the county holds regular meetings of its seven-member commission and nine-member education board.   • The North Carolina State Board of Elections is contacting 103,000 voters, including 3,929 in Cumberland County, to update records with a driver’s license number or the last four digits of their Social Security number ahead of Election Day on Nov. 4.   • North Carolina State Auditor Dave Boliek shared his audit findings on Monday that showed the DMV was struggling with long wait times and staffing shortages making it hard for residents to get services like REAL IDs. DMV Commissioner Paul Tine promised changes including a more streamlined queuing system and Gov. Josh Stein signed a law offering a two year grace period on expiring driver licenses—steps aimed at easing the statewide backlog.  WRAL
