Good morning, Fayetteville. Here's your local news at a glance for Monday, the 4th of August.

EDUCATION NEWS

  • CityView’s August Back to School magazine will be available on newsstands across Cumberland County by mid-August—highlighting a positive start to the 2025-2026 school year with features on the new superintendent, book sales, and student projects.  CityView

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On July 7, Hope Mills officials voted to change town charter terms from two-year to four-year staggered terms for the mayor and council to ensure long-term stability — a move made without a public referendum. Some residents and former officials worry that the change removes the chance for voters to decide on how the town is run.  CityView

HEALTH NEWS

  • Amid a nationwide measles outbreak with 1,288 cases and three deaths, pediatric experts advise Fayetteville parents to check that children are fully vaccinated—receiving two doses before school—and follow healthy routines like thorough handwashing and enough sleep. They also recommend keeping a medicine cabinet stocked with age-appropriate pain relievers, cough drops, and antihistamines for early care and allergy relief.  The Fayetteville Observer
