CRIME NEWS

  • Cumberland County deputies investigated a possible abduction on Monday morning when three men forced a woman into a white Nissan Rogue with South Carolina plates at the Spring Lake Auto Center on Lillington Highway—one man carried her onto the vehicle while another held her as she tried to escape and the stolen SUV sped toward Harnett County.  WRAL

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Cumberland County agencies secured $34.6 million in state and federal funds for water projects—Fayetteville PWC received $20.5 million for a PFAS reduction facility at the P.O. Hoffer/Glenville Lake Water Treatment Plant while county government got funds to extend water service and install PFAS treatment technology. The investments will modernize aging systems and improve water quality for local families.  The Fayetteville Observer
  • A Duke University study shows that scrapping the state’s 70% climate goal could add $23 billion to energy bills by 2050 and risk 50,700 lost jobs. Lawmakers are set to vote this week on overriding Gov. Josh Stein’s veto of SB 266—measures that would shift more power plant costs to ratepayers.  WRAL
  • Fayetteville City Council District 1 will have a new representative as longtime member Kathy Jensen campaigns for mayor, and four candidates have filed to replace her. The candidates are Jamie Davis + James Thomas III + Stephon Ferguson + Theodore Melkoumov, and they will compete in the primary on Oct 7 with the top two advancing to the general election on Nov 4.  CityView
