  • On Thursday, Aug. 14, hundreds of volunteers will gather at 1960 Coliseum Drive, Suite 107 to pack 70,000 shelf-stable meals from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. for local food pantries—registration has expanded to over 500 volunteers to support families facing food insecurity.  Up & Coming Weekly
  • Group Therapy Pub & Playground opened on July 12 at 1906 Skibo Rd and brought Fayetteville a new place for social games such as mini golf—digital darts, axe throwing, and duckpin bowling—with creative cocktails and live music from Rivermist.   • On July 3, United Way of Cumberland County announced its annual Community Impact Partners for the 2025–2026 funding cycle and allocated $450,000 to 20 nonprofit programs supporting Education, Health, and Basic Critical Needs & Financial Stability.   • Military spouses are using the Fort Bragg Homemade Facebook group—with nearly 7,000 members—to sell crafts and baked goods from home and earn extra money.   • Business partners Darnisha James and Kevin Walker will launch the Trolley Pub experience in Fayetteville, a pedal-powered pub that had a successful trial run on June 28 — community members chased the trolley and recorded the event downtown.   • Local meteorological data shows that Fayetteville is experiencing its most humid summer on record—dew point levels measured since June 1 are higher than in past decades. The Bermuda High and warm Atlantic waters are bringing tropical moisture that may trigger heavy rains and heat alerts later.  WRAL

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Fayetteville and other Cumberland County municipalities will hold municipal elections later this year with numerous candidates for mayor and council seats, the primary on Oct. 7 and the general election on Nov. 4. The Greater Fayetteville Chamber will host a Candidates Academy on Aug. 1 and a Candidates Forum on Oct. 14 at Fayetteville Technical Community College—giving residents a chance to learn about candidate plans.  Up & Coming Weekly
