- ➤ Former Fayetteville police officer Jacob Jones, fired and arrested on June 18 for sexual battery, is scheduled for a disposition hearing on Aug. 20 after he is accused of inappropriately touching a female employee on May 13. CityView
- ➤ Cumberland County sheriff’s deputies arrested Cape Fear High School volunteer coach Luis Guillen, 28, on Wednesday on two counts of contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile — he is due in court on Thursday morning. WRAL

- ➤ North Carolina DMV offices did not accept credit card payments Wednesday due to a system outage—customers were told to pay with cash instead. The state is working with NCDIT to restore credit card processing today. WRAL
- ➤ CityView is seeking a Fayetteville government reporter to cover local government meetings and produce 3—4 stories each week—candidates with 3—5 years of experience may earn 45,000—60,000 and their applications will be reviewed starting August 4. CityView
- ➤ Cumberland County is accepting applications for the sheriff position left open by Ennis Wright’s retirement; qualified applicants must be at least 21, county residents with no felonies, and must hand-deliver seven copies of their application to the courthouse by Aug. 4. The Board of Commissioners will choose a successor at its 9 a.m. meeting on Aug. 11—applicants will also have an opportunity to speak before the decision is made. The Fayetteville Observer
- ➤ North Carolina sued FEMA after the agency cut over $200 million in funds meant to repair vital infrastructure damaged by recent flooding. Attorney General Jeff Jackson said he asked the court to rule on the emergency request within weeks — the money was already approved by Congress. WRAL

- ➤ Cape Fear Valley Health is partnering with Javara to help patients join clinical trials at its local facilities—Javara’s staff will work with doctors in departments like oncology and cardiology so that any eligible patient can take part in studies and benefit from advanced care.
