- ➤ Cumberland Community Foundation honored Harvey Oliver, Rosa Torrey and Mary Ann McCoy for their key roles that helped build the foundation starting in 1980 when Dr. Lucile Hutaff donated seed money. - ➤ Farms Helping Families has opened its Cedar Creek Market on Cedar Creek Road where local farmers, producers and artisans offer fresh, locally sourced food. The market was launched by Channing and Brandon Perdue, who run an educational farm that teaches agricultural skills to military service members transitioning into civilian life — they continue to complete final enhancements like fencing. - ➤ The Army is asking for $43 million for construction projects at Fort Bragg that will build an automated infantry platoon battle course and a new aircraft maintenance hangar. If funded, the battle course will start in March 2026 and the hangar in June 2026—efforts designed to upgrade training and maintenance capabilities. The Fayetteville Observer
- ➤ Griffith, an English Labrador retriever, joined the fire crew as the first crisis response dog at Fire Station 5 on Boone Trail following a vesting ceremony on July 10; handler Haili Conn said the trained dog will help cut stress for firefighters and citizens while plans are underway to add two more dogs.
