  • The Fayetteville Fire Department welcomed crisis response dog Griffith—who trained for over 50 hours to reduce stress and calm anxiety among firefighters—to join the team today at Station 5. The department said it will add two more crisis response dogs to support every shift.  ABC 11

  • Cracker Barrel is updating its look across the country by using lighter paint and brighter decor to attract new customers—local stores may follow if the chain decides to extend the changes. Employees from Fayetteville reported on July 7 that no renovations are planned at the two local locations.  The Fayetteville Observer

  • CityView’s July edition honors our military by featuring six books that share real stories from soldiers and veterans linked to Fort Bragg—each book offering insights into the courage and leadership that shaped our community’s history. ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A Waterkeeper Alliance study found that sewer plants carry dangerous forever chemicals and researchers detected high PFAS levels in the Cape Fear River below the Cross Creek plant run by Fayetteville Public Works Commission. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The U.S. Army said it was strictly enforcing a grooming policy that required soldiers to be clean-shaven on duty, and the measure drew mixed reactions from service members who warned it could lead to skin issues for those with curly hair. An Army spokesperson said exceptions were available for non-religious medical conditions—soldiers must submit documentation and treatment plans to qualify.  ABC 11
  • A list of candidates filing for the 2025 municipal elections was released for Fayetteville and nine Cumberland County jurisdictions—filings began on July 7 and will remain open until noon July 18. Fayetteville will hold its primary on October 7 and the general election on November 4, where voters will choose mayors, council members, and board members.  CityView
  • Hope Mills board voted 3-2 on Monday to amend the town charter by setting staggered four-year terms for elected board members instead of the current two-year terms—this change takes effect in the November election cycle and residents can file a referendum within 30 days if 10% of registered voters sign a petition.  CityView

  • Fayetteville’s restaurant scene has changed as long-loved spots closed while food trucks grew popular with locals who still remember places like Sammio’s.
