- ➤ Aaron English, a Grays Creek man who suffered second- and third-degree burns on 65% of his body when a house on Thrower Road caught fire around 10:30 p.m. Tuesday, remains in a medically induced coma at UNC’s burn center — his family said he is expected to need up to nine months of hospitalization and multiple surgeries. - ➤ Cumberland County Schools is asking students, teachers, families, and community members to review a new cellphone use policy drafted under House Bill 959 signed by Gov. Josh Stein on July 1—this policy aims to reduce class distractions and includes exceptions for medical or safety needs—and feedback must be submitted by 5 p.m. on July 21 to guide the Board of Education before its August 5 meeting.
