  • Fayetteville Area Habitat for Humanity will host a build-your-own stool workshop on June 28 to teach building skills while raising funds for its Youth Construction Camp scheduled for July 28 to August 1 — this is the first event focused solely on crafting a stool that participants can take home. Director Ashley Thompson said the workshop follows high demand from previous sessions and supports local youth trade training.  Up & Coming Weekly
  • Ham radio operators from the Cape Fear Amateur Radio Society, Inc. in Fayetteville will participate in the ARRL Field Day exercise from 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 28 until 2 p.m. on Sunday, June 29 at the Chapter 1-18 Special Forces Association compound — they will demonstrate emergency communication skills and invite the public to learn about obtaining FCC licenses.  Up & Coming Weekly

  • On Tuesday, June 24, the Fayetteville Symphony Orchestra performed at Gates Four Country Club — a venue hosting a String Quartet at 7 p.m. and a Jazz Quartet at 8:30 p.m. — where interactive Music Bingo engaged local families during the free evening event. EDUCATION NEWS

  • Sabrina Santucci, 35, was named in Fayetteville’s 40 Under 40 for her role as interim department head at Fayetteville Tech in Culinary Arts, Baking and Pastry Arts, and Hospitality Management—she led SkillsUSA teams and launched a new Baking and Pastry Arts degree program that celebrated its first cohort on May 16.  The Fayetteville Observer

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On June 9, the City of Fayetteville approved a FY2026 operating budget of $315.2 million and a capital improvement plan of $91.8 million, while on June 19 the county Board approved a $406,207,579 budget that lowered the property tax rate to 49.9 cents per $100 under the state-mandated balanced ordinance. FAST introduced youth summer bus passes for unlimited rides until Aug. 15 and a joint city-county meeting on June 16 discussed community support and workforce development, with the next session set for Aug. 18.  Up & Coming Weekly
  • Spring Lake’s Board of Commissioners approved a $16,727,966 budget for fiscal year 2025-26 after a June 9 public hearing and allocated over $9.5 million to the general fund to support town repairs and operations. The budget — structured around four focus areas: infrastructure, safe water systems, economic development, and community safety — includes a $96,000 allocation for a new code enforcement officer while keeping the property tax rate at 74.1 cents per $100 of value.  CityView
