ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A BMW driver lost control on Southern Avenue on Monday, June 9, after speeding over a railroad track and crashing into a power pole, a fence, and a parked Cumberland County EMS truck—authorities said the injured driver fled the scene—and Southern Avenue remains closed until the pole is replaced.  ABC 11

CRIME NEWS

  • Fayetteville police responded at 7 a.m. on Monday to a home on the 1900 block of Tinman Drive — near Cliffdale and Hoke Loop Roads — where a violent suspect was barricaded inside and residents were told to avoid the area.  WRAL

ECONOMY NEWS

  • North Carolina's car insurance rates will increase by an average of 5% statewide for new and renewed policies effective October 1, a rate much lower than the nearly 23% hike requested by regulators. Insurance commissioner Mike Causey said he is pleased with the settlement—stating that the modest rise will help keep auto premiums among the nation's lowest.  WRAL
