CRIME NEWS

  • Police responded to a shooting on the 3600 block of Dornoch Drive around 3:30 a.m. Sunday, June 8 where they found a person shot and killed; investigators have not released the victim's identity and ask anyone with information to call (910-705-2141 or 910-705-2093).  ABC 11

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Mustafa Alasri from Jack Britt High School received his diploma on June 4 and thanked his parents and teachers for their support. He plans to attend Fayetteville Technical Community College this fall and work part-time at Target to help pay his tuition.  CityView

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • North Carolina's new auto insurance law goes into effect July 1; it raises the required coverage from 30/60/25 to 50/100/50, extends new driver surcharges from three to eight years, and makes violations with four or more points affect premiums for five years. The law will affect about 26% of policies (the most impacted) and may raise premiums by about $44–$45 a year (for drivers with clean records).  The Fayetteville Observer
  • Officials at Fort Bragg announced that Manchester Road, from Morganton Road to Morrison Bridge Road, is closed until Aug. 31 for resurfacing. Drivers can use alternative routes via Morganton Road and King Road or northern highways — the work is set to make the road safer once completed.  The Fayetteville Observer
