  • Fayetteville’s Alpek polyester plant in Cedar Creek will shut down operations beginning July 31, which will result in 180 workers being laid off. The Mexico-based company said the ramp-down is part of a global restructuring—aimed at saving about $20 million a year starting in 2026.  ABC 11

CRIME NEWS

  • Former Hope Mills police officer Bradley Hall Rountree pleaded guilty to obstructing justice and evidence destruction after overdosing on fentanyl in December 2023—he received a suspended six-month sentence with two years of probation from Cumberland County Superior Court.  CityView

  • The J-Archive website shows that Fayetteville was mentioned on Jeopardy! in at least 12 clues between 1985 and 2024, with clues featuring local history and eight contestants from the area. HEALTH NEWS

  • Military caregiver Jacqueline Larsen is using her fellowship with the Elizabeth Dole Foundation to educate other military caregivers about available support services and advocate for more resources—she will host a session at the VA Fayetteville Coastal health care’s Caregiver Resource Class on June 24 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. to help local caregivers manage financial and emotional challenges.  CityView
