- ➤ The city council voted 5–4 to put a youth curfew in place that forbids anyone 16 and under from being out alone between 11 p.m. and 6 a.m. Officers will be trained to enforce the rule and council members will review it on June 9 (exceptions apply for work, government, or religious activities). - ➤ Fayetteville police arrested Jeremiah Travell Buffington on May 27 for the first-degree murder of 18-year-old Sencedrick Antonio Barham Jr. on Feb 26 outside a Skibo Road restaurant — the victim’s father said he still struggles with the pain of losing his son. The Fayetteville Observer

- ➤ On May 28th, the Cumberland County Board of Education unanimously appointed Dr. Eric Bracy as the new superintendent of Cumberland County Schools—he will start his four-year term on July 1 after more than 25 years in public education, including service as superintendent in Johnston County. ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ On May 7 — the report date — the PWC said that Fayetteville's drinking water met safety standards in 2024, but PFAS chemicals must be cut to 4 parts per trillion by 2031. The utility tested water more than 150,000 times and plans to spend nearly $116 million to add new filters—making sure the water stays safe in coming years. CityView

- ➤ North Carolina mailed about 100,000 delayed state tax refund checks to taxpayers who filed paper returns or requested a paper check after a printing interruption halted their delivery. The checks were sent as of May 23 & include inserts explaining the delay while the Department of Revenue seeks a new printing partner. WRAL
