Good morning, Fayetteville.

The Cape Fear Regional Theatre placed its final steel beam last Thursday, May 14, as the expansion project nears completion with plans to finish by end of 2026.

The $23 to $25 million project will modernize the venue’s facilities & capacity, thanks to strong community and donor support.

Cape Fear Regional Theatre’s production Crowns — a gospel musical celebrating Black church culture — is extended through May 31 at its temporary location on Owen Drive after sold-out preview shows began on May 7.

Government offices in Fayetteville, Cumberland County, Hope Mills and Spring Lake will remain closed Monday, May 25 for Memorial Day; trash and yard waste collections as well as transit services are rescheduled, so residents should verify service times.

Construction crews in Spring Lake are shifting work hours to beat summer heat by starting an hour early and taking 15- to 30-minute breaks during eight-hour shifts; they emphasize hydration using water and sports drinks to keep workers safe.

County commissioners are considering redeveloping the former Gillespie Street parking lot into a 125-room upscale hotel with a restaurant + meeting space in downtown Fayetteville.

A study presented on May 18 suggests the project could revive the vacant property, which has sat unused for over a year.
