COMMUNITY NEWS

  • All-American Week at Fort Bragg began yesterday with the annual division run that saw 17,000 paratroopers and veteran leaders cheered on by families and community members — the event also featured a flyover. Other weeklong activities will include a memorial service, hall of fame ceremony, and sports competitions.  ABC 11

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Mac's Speed Shop has served the Carolinas since 2005 and is marking 20 years with events running from May 16 to May 28 at all nine locations, including its Fayetteville spot at 482 North McPherson Church Road. The celebration features a pork sandwich donation drive that gives $1 to a local disaster relief fund+ further activations are planned throughout 2025.  Up & Coming Weekly

CULTURE NEWS

  • Cape Fear Regional Theatre opened Once On This Island Saturday night with a musical retelling of The Little Mermaid using Caribbean flair — the set and lighting brought the tropical theme to life. The show runs through June 1 and features lively dance and songs that explore love, loss, and hope.  CityView

FINANCE NEWS

  • A new study from First Street Foundation finds that climate change will soon alter how home loans are approved as rising flood and insurance costs force lenders to impose stricter terms—this change may lead to higher borrowing costs for buyers in vulnerable parts of North Carolina. Researchers warn that these adjustments could make it harder for families to secure affordable loans.  WRAL

SPORTS NEWS

  • College baseball bracket projections show that UNC is on track to host both a regional and super regional in Chapel Hill as the team is projected as the No. 4 seed, while NC State is expected to compete as a No. 2 seed in the Baton Rouge Regional. Duke is projected as a No. 2 or No. 3 seed with a selection show set for May 26 and regional play starting May 30 — these forecasts set the stage for a busy postseason.  The Fayetteville Observer
  • The ACC announced its all-conference baseball teams and awards on May 19, naming UNC pitcher Jake Knapp as ACC Pitcher of the Year after he posted an undefeated record of 11 wins and 0 losses with a 2.14 ERA in 2025. The awards were revealed ahead of the ACC Tournament that begins May 20 in Durham + Knapp is the first UNC pitcher to win the honor since 2017.  The Fayetteville Observer
