EDUCATION NEWS

  • More than 400 guests gathered in Fayetteville on May 15 to honor retiring Cumberland County Schools Superintendent Dr. Marvin Connelly Jr.—he served 34 years in education and will retire on July 1 after seven years as superintendent.  The Fayetteville Observer

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Fayetteville residents will attend a public meeting on May 21 at 6:30 p.m. at the Gilmore Adaptive Recreation Center to learn about park upgrades and stormwater improvements – city staff will explain details of bond-funded projects and invite feedback on a new capital project dashboard.  The Fayetteville Observer
  • The 82nd Airborne Division will induct two retired officers and five retired enlisted leaders into its Hall of Fame on May 21 at 11 a.m. at Fort Bragg’s Hall of Heroes—recognizing their service, combat actions and contributions beyond the military.  The Fayetteville Observer

HEALTH NEWS

  • May is Preeclampsia Awareness Month and CEO Tiffany Campbell from Elite Steps said preeclampsia is a dangerous condition that causes high blood pressure and can force an early delivery to keep mothers safe. Campbell urged more women, especially Black women who face higher risks, to learn the warning signs and treatment options to reduce severe complications.  The Fayetteville Observer

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • Public pools and splashpads in North Carolina will open around Memorial Day with modified hours until June 15 and regular hours starting June 16—resources include facilities offering lap pools, splash zones and family fun. The list also covers options in Wake, Durham, Orange and Cumberland counties—helping Fayetteville residents find a spot to cool off this summer.  WRAL
