ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A firefighter was struck by a car Friday in Cumberland County while responding to a crash on U.S. Highway 301 North; emergency responders arrived at 8 a.m. and the car hit the fire engine and firefighter Waymon Hudson at 8:45 a.m. + he was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.  WRAL

  • Fayetteville has many shopping centers built from the 1950s to the 2010s owned by local and out-of-state firms—15 key centers, including Bordeaux Center, Cross Creek Mall and Fayetteville Commons, were highlighted with details on their tenants and opening dates.  The Fayetteville Observer

  • Fayetteville will offer many ways to celebrate Mother’s Day including crafting bouquets at Floral Oasis and painting pottery at Greg’s Pottery, a wine brunch at The Sip Room, thrifting at Westdale Vintage and Nita Jean’s, candle making at Scented Wicks, and a tea party at Winterbloom Tea—these options will be available before or on May 11. EDUCATION NEWS

  • State education officials and PowerSchool said Wednesday that law enforcement was notified after a threat actor used data from a December hack to send alarming messages to school employees, and North Carolina Superintendent Mo Green held a press conference to address the issue (the breach exposed records for millions of students and teachers around the world).  WRAL

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A report found that the Construction Management Division had staffing shortages and informal oversight on 15 projects worth over $150 million, prompting the City Council to hire Freese & Nichols Inc.—to improve accountability and guide changes. The city will add a new project dashboard and hire a director as it works with the firm over the next year to implement the recommendations.  CityView
  • Jefferson Griffin conceded his bid to cancel ballots in the North Carolina Supreme Court race after a federal judge ruled that votes for sitting Justice Allison Riggs must count — he said he will not appeal the decision.  The Fayetteville Observer
  • Fayetteville received $910,000 from the state’s Department of Environmental Quality to reduce flooding near Eutaw Creek—city officials said the funds will enlarge culverts at McGougan and Ivy Roads and upgrade storm drainage at Lyon and McKimmon Roads—aiming to protect a neighborhood that has experienced repeated flooding.  CityView
