  • Fort Bragg is preparing to celebrate All American Week from May 18th to May 22nd to honor the 82nd Airborne Division—America's Guard of Honor—through events including a division run, boxing competition, combat shooting, hall of fame induction, and a memorial.  ABC 11
  • Fayetteville’s Ultimate Lip Sync Showdown will be held on May 17 at the Crown Complex with a youth matinee at 1 p.m. and an adult show at 7 p.m. Fayetteville Academy presents the fundraiser—designed to support the Child Advocacy Center and its work for over 700 child abuse victims—with an aim to raise $50K this year.  Up & Coming Weekly
  • On May 10 at 2 p.m., Saucha Living and Room2Tailor will host a Swap and Shop event at Blissful Alchemists at 414 Ray Ave—bringing 5 or more items will reduce the entry fee from $30 to $20 and include a drink voucher; proceeds support HEAL and unclaimed items will aid Fayetteville Urban Ministries.  Up & Coming Weekly

CULTURE NEWS

  • Triangle Walking Tours is hosting a True Crime Tour on Saturday, May 10 at 4 p.m.—the event will explore Fayetteville’s dark history including notorious murders, poisonings, and daring escapes. Tour participants will meet at Winterbloom Tea on Hay Street—tickets cost $15 per individual.  Up & Coming Weekly

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • During Monday’s board meeting at Town Hall, Hope Mills officials discussed rising parking issues at Heritage Park as increased visitors strain shared spaces with the lake and First Citizens Bank. Town Manager Chancer McLaughlin proposed a shuttle system for large events—supported by crosswalk and sidewalk improvements funded by a town grant—and he will study options further with Parks and Recreation Director Lamarco Morrison.  CityView
  • The North Carolina Senate passed SB693 on May 6 that would require claim companies to display a 12-point disclosure stating they are not affiliated with the VA and that free services are available—aiming to curb deceptive practices against veterans. The bill protects veterans by limiting fees to increases in benefits and ensuring clear information on service options.  CityView
