GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Fayetteville Mayor Mitch Colvin called for a 9 p.m. curfew for unattended minors and considered declaring a state of emergency after three shootings occurred in six hours near the Dogwood Festival over the weekend—city leaders will review his proposals at a special council meeting on May 5.  WRAL
  • Cumberland County lawmakers sponsored bills in the General Assembly to stop PFAS from harming Fayetteville's water—a problem linked to decades of contamination from the Fayetteville Works Plant. The bills will ban PFAS production, force polluters to pay for cleanup, and provide funds for water research to protect local water systems.  CityView
  • Clarence Roberts was set free on April 16 after 12 years in prison when three judges agreed he was innocent, making him the 16th person cleared by the North Carolina Innocence Inquiry Commission. State senators approved a $32.6 billion budget that cuts the commission’s funding—casting doubt on its future as lawmakers now await the House spending plan.  CityView
