  • Sapper, an 8-year-old husky wearing a beret, was named the USO’s 2025 Canine Volunteer of the Year on April 21—recognizing his role in supporting 13,000 service members and families each month at the Fort Bragg USO Center.  The Fayetteville Observer
  • Historian Joann Adams, an E.E. Smith graduate (with original documents), called on City Council on April 6 to recognize South Side High School (a key institution for Black students during segregation).  The Fayetteville Observer

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A new sober living home in Haymount (443 Rollingwood Circle) has drawn neighborhood opposition after residents said it violates zoning rules, and city officials sent a letter on April 1 to owner April Helene Iannazzone to work toward compliance.  CityView
  • Fayetteville Public Works Commission said that errant animals caused 222 non-major power outages in 2025, so officials are installing wildlife guards + other measures to reduce future incidents.  CityView

  • After competing in game 1 yesterday, the No. 2 Tar Heels + Duke will meet again today at 6 p.m. on ACC Network Extra at Jack Coombs Field in Durham for game 2 of their three-game ACC series.  The Fayetteville Observer
  • UNC football announced Bobby Petrino as offensive coordinator under Bill Belichick; he met with reporters on April 23 and explained his run-first strategy to boost an offense that struggled last season, citing his success at Arkansas.  The Fayetteville Observer
