Good morning, Fayetteville.
The County Board of Commissioners has lifted a 30-day pause on the $145 million Crown Event Center project downtown while waiting on updated numbers on costly renovations needed for ADA compliance—officials are reviewing whether to build the new center downtown or redevelop the older venues. Chairman Kirk deViere said the board is studying fresh cost data and long-term plans for the area, including future road projects.
Fayetteville Area Metropolitan Planning Authority will spend $500,000 on a transit study to explore ways to merge local bus services and test microtransit—a ride-sharing option that lets riders request trips in real time.
The study, included in the fiscal year 2026 budget, will guide future decisions on funding and resource planning for our region.
Fayetteville’s Prince Charles Hotel turned 100 on April 15 after a century of ups and downs and now houses apartments known as The Residences at the Prince Charles.
Developers are planning retail leases and renovating spaces — including a ballroom now used for events— while facing a lawsuit over a nearby parking deck set for trial in June.
