Good morning, Fayetteville. Here's your local news at a glance for Saturday, the 19th of April.

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Whataburger has submitted plans for two Fayetteville sites—one on Raeford Road and another on Ramsey Street—but the chain has not confirmed if it will open a location or shared a timeline. The plans call for a 3,305-square-foot restaurant with a drive-thru and parking as officials review the proposals.  The Fayetteville Observer

  • Sandhills PRIDE named four high school seniors as recipients of its 2025 scholarships totaling $15,000—each chosen for academic success, leadership, or advocacy work. A reception to honor the winners will be held on May 16—from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Weymouth Center in Southern Pines.  The Fayetteville Observer

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Hope Mills Mayor Jessie Bellflowers held his first town hall on April 17 at 7 p.m. at the Town Recreation Center—his first event since winning in November 2023—and answered tough questions on new construction and needed repairs. His wife Bambi moderated the meeting by enforcing strict rules—allowing only one question per person—and the mayor promised to answer unanswered queries at Monday’s board meeting.  CityView
  • Fayetteville leaders are considering a new tiered stormwater fee that would charge residents based on the amount of impervious surface on their property—if adopted, the fee will start at $8 in fiscal year 2027 to help fund $500 million in stormwater projects. Council members expressed support for the model and will discuss the options further at an upcoming work session.  CityView
  • Residents attended a public input meeting on Thursday at the town’s recreation center to offer feedback on plans for the second phase of Heritage Park, where Parks and Recreation outlined updates including a new playground, outdoor classroom, trails, and a canoe launch. The town will move to a design-build contract in winter and begin construction in fall while seeking a matching PARTF grant to fund the roughly $1.18 million project — residents’ input will help shape the final construction documents.  CityView
