- ➤ The Dogwood Festival, celebrating 43 years (its annual milestone), will be held from April 25th to April 27th in downtown Fayetteville with carnival rides, live shows, a kid zone with WWE-style wrestling, over 20 food trucks, and various vendors at no charge. The event will have extended evening hours (Friday and Saturday ending at 11 p.m. and Sunday ending at 6 p.m.), giving families more time to enjoy the festivities. ABC 11
- ➤ Today, Fayetteville’s first gym just for women, Gracefully Fit, opened at 234 Westwood Shopping Center to fill a gap in local fitness options. - ➤ U.S. Marshals arrested juvenile Ke'Won Parker at 8:25 a.m. on April 17 on charges of first-degree murder and robbery with a dangerous weapon in connection with the November shooting of Brittany M. Carmichael at her boyfriend’s home—Parker had been sought since a Cumberland County judge approved his juvenile petition on March 27. The Fayetteville Observer
- ➤ On April 17, Shana Cloud, 50, filed an affidavit of indigency and was assigned a public defender in Cumberland County for charges of first-degree murder and concealment of death in connection with the dismemberment of her husband—a former Green Beret whose torso was found near their Butler Nursery Road home on Feb. 25. - ➤ The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office warned residents about a scam on Thursday involving fake invoices with official county letterheads that mimic the Department of Planning and Inspections — the department never issues such invoices and residents are urged to report suspicious mail to the North Carolina Attorney General’s Office.
