- ➤ Fayetteville police investigated a fatal hit-and-run on North Reilly Road near Telfair Drive between 8 p.m. and 9 p.m. on April 12—after striking a pedestrian who died at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center, the suspect vehicle left the scene and showed possible front passenger-side damage and a broken headlight, so anyone with tips was urged to contact Specialist C. - ➤ Fayetteville man James Holloway bought a $50 10 Million Spectacular scratch-off ticket at VaVa Food Mart on Cumberland Road and won a $1 million prize when he claimed his winnings at lottery headquarters in Raleigh on Monday, choosing a lump sum payout of $600,000 and receiving $430,514 after state and federal tax deductions. - ➤ On Monday, state Senate leaders unveiled a new budget that includes modest raises for teachers and other state workers — and funds to rebuild savings reserves after Hurricane Helene as part of a two-year plan set to start on July 1. - ➤ County officials are installing self-service kiosks at the Department of Social Services, the public health building & the courthouse to let residents drop off documents and apply for benefits without waiting for staff. - ➤ The Fayetteville Public Works Commission said over $60 million in federal funds for a PFAS filtration project remain frozen under review, raising concerns about water safety and potential rate hikes.
