  • Fayetteville Technical Community College trustee Vikki Andrews received the Order of the Long Leaf Pine on March 22 (presented by Rep. Mike Colvin on behalf of Gov. Stein). She said her service inspires others to help the community.  CityView

ECONOMY NEWS

  • The U.S. economy added 178,000 jobs in March, yet Black unemployment in Fayetteville stayed high at 7.1% compared to 3.6% for white workers. Local resident Adrian Hall lost her job five months ago and has sent over 50 applications while juggling several gigs to support herself.  ABC 11

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The N.C. Supreme Court reversed its 2022 ruling on the Leandro School Funding Plan, a case that began in 1994 when five low-wealth counties challenged the state for inadequate school funding. The decision is expected to change education funding policies across the state.  CityView
  • The Cumberland County Board of Education approved a plan that moves E.E. Smith High’s design to 2026–27 and construction to early 2028 while beginning the closure process for Manchester and J.W. Coon elementary schools (public hearings are set April 27 and 29 with a final vote on May 12).  CityView

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Fort Bragg’s 82nd Airborne Division canceled its 2026 All American Week, saying the event will resume in 2027 even as military officials deployed troops to the Middle East amid the Iran War, and invited veterans & community partners in its Facebook post.  WRAL
