- ➤ Cumberland County Schools will host a teacher job fair from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at Gray's Creek High School in Hope Mills where job seekers will meet administrators and HR staff about teaching openings in areas such as special education, math, science, and elementary education. - ➤ The DEQ announced that 150,000 local households within 30 miles of Chemours’ Fayetteville Works plant—covering parts of Hoke, Harnett, Cumberland, Bladen, Robeson, and Sampson—now qualify for free PFAS well testing, and Chemours will provide bottled water and filtration systems if unsafe levels are found. - ➤ Fayetteville activists will rally at 11 a.m. Saturday outside the Fayetteville PWC headquarters on Old Wilmington Road to protest a proposed state rule that lets industries keep releasing PFAS, a toxic chemical that may harm drinking water. - ➤ Yesterday, former Pearl Harbor sailor Neil Daniel Frye was buried with honors at Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery in Spring Lake after his cremated remains were positively identified. The military service featured a flag folding ceremony and tribute as Frye, who died aboard the USS West Virginia during the Dec. 7 attack on Pearl Harbor, was honored. The Fayetteville Observer
- ➤ The Fayetteville City Council voted on March 25 to join a national lawsuit against makers of firefighting foam with PFAS—hoping to get funds for testing and cleanup at the Fayetteville Regional Airport—and hold them responsible for damage. The lawsuit will let Fayetteville work with other cities to share legal costs and cover remediation expenses. The Fayetteville Observer
- ➤ At a recent meeting, the Council on Homelessness and Mental Health Committee recommended that city officials discuss building a village of Pallet tiny homes for the unhoused at its work session on May 5—each unit costing about $24,000 and offering either 70 or 120 square feet.
