  • The Cumberland County Board of Education is asking the community to share ideas for qualities needed in a new superintendent via an online survey open until 11:59 p.m. on March 30—this step follows Superintendent Marvin Connelly's announcement of his retirement effective June 30.  CityView

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Fayetteville City Council member Mario Benavente—35—launched his bid for mayor on March 25 at City Hall with about 25 supporters and said he will focus on public safety reform, economic growth and community inclusion. The nonpartisan race will have a filing period from July 7th to July 18th, a primary on Oct. 7th and a general election on Nov. 4th.  The Fayetteville Observer

HEALTH NEWS

  • Fort Bragg Harley Davidson will host the Fighting For Mental Health event on April 6 at their shop on 3950 Sycamore Dairy Rd from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.—general admission is free and vendors, non-profits, and food trucks will participate; the event aims to support service members and veterans by raising awareness about mental health issues and resources like the 988 hotline.  Up & Coming Weekly
