ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ On March 23, a speeding Chevrolet Traverse tried to pass two SUVs on NC Highway 24 in Cumberland County and hit a Nissan, causing it to collide with a Lincoln and flip over so that a trapped female driver was freed and taken to Cape Fear Valley Hospital with minor injuries while an adult and a child in the Chevrolet suffered serious injuries and westbound lanes were closed for detours. CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A Fayetteville man (Kurtis Trashone Williams) pleaded guilty to violent crimes that included killing two teens in October 2021 and other attacks and was sentenced on March 17 to 20 to 25 years in prison with credit for nearly three and a half years in jail, and he must also pay $12,450 and register as a sex offender for life. - ➤ On March 5, county commissioners voted to pause work on the Crown Event Center for 30 days so that a lawyer from Hutchens Law Firm can review the project’s contracts and costs—Flowers will report on April 3 to help decide if the $145 million construction will continue or change. CityView
- ➤ A new diverging diamond interchange opened today on Airport Boulevard at Interstate 40 to keep traffic flowing and reduce crash risks by letting drivers avoid left turns against oncoming traffic. The NCDOT closed the Airport Boulevard bridge last weekend to finish upgrades — drivers should plan for extra travel time while following new signage. WRAL
