An autopsy report shows that David Michael Matthews died from a gunshot wound to the head at his Trace Avenue home in Cumberland County, and his coworker Richard James Martin was arrested on December 17 and charged with first-degree murder—official records now classify the case as homicide.

Fayetteville resident Kathy Poole Armstrong, 55, received a new heart on December 18, 2024 after a long battle with a failing heart, and recent tests at Duke show no signs of rejection.

She has faced heart problems for 26 years – and she now remains grateful while hoping to meet her donor’s family.
