  • Cumberland County Public Library now offers seven days of unlimited passes to local attractions — available on a first-come, first-served basis at the Headquarters Library on Maiden Lane until October and funded by an $852 grant.  The Fayetteville Observer

CRIME NEWS

  • NyAsia Blue, a 19-year-old teacher at Ms. Jo's Child Care, was shot and killed in her sleep at her home on Jockey Whip Lane early Tuesday when several rounds struck her residence (police say a dark SUV was seen leaving the scene in what they believe was a targeted drive-by shooting).  ABC 11
  • A juvenile Subway employee was shot on Wednesday at a Spring Lake restaurant on Murchison Road after a customer got into an altercation with staff—Fayetteville resident Alisa Jewel Reed, 37, now faces multiple felony charges including attempted first degree murder and is held in the Cumberland County Detention Center as the investigation continues.  CityView

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • North Carolina state officials approved a draft PFAS rule on March 13 that will require factories to test wastewater for toxic chemicals but will not limit how much they can dump; over 600-plus facilities, including one near Fayetteville, may be affected as critics say the rule does little to protect drinking water. The proposal will be reviewed again in May while opponents argue it fails to stop pollution.  WRAL

  • Fayetteville VA Healthcare System cut 11 jobs recently as part of a federal plan to reduce its workforce by 15% to 2019 levels+VA Secretary Doug Collins said the move will not change veteran care despite concerns that future cuts may lead to longer waits and reduced services.  The Fayetteville Observer
  • Fayetteville’s IRS taxpayer assistance center in the Dogwood State Bank building may soon lose its lease as the Department of Government Efficiency works on cost-cutting moves—building owner Stan Futrell said the lease has been discussed but is not yet terminated.  The Fayetteville Observer
