EDUCATION NEWS

  • Cumberland County Schools is proposing to add five instructional days to the 2026-27 school year and rebalance high school semesters. Classes will begin on Aug. 24 and end on May 28, and teacher telework+early-release days will be rescheduled pending final board approval.  CityView

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Hope Mills approved a $2.36M upgrade plan for Lake Park with parking, playground, boat ramp, gazebo, and restrooms after a Feb. 16 update. The board also scheduled repairs on a basketball court, renamed Pinecrest Drive to Suncrest Drive, and received a clean fiscal audit report.  CityView
  • Fayetteville families with ties to Fort Bragg share mixed views on the Iran conflict while the base remains on threat condition Bravo — car inspections and visitor passes are still required. Local military personnel and veterans stress preparedness as tensions abroad continue.  ABC 11

SPORTS NEWS

  • UNC's basketball team enters the final week of the season with a home game against Clemson today at 7 p.m. on ESPN after moving up to No. 18 in the USA TODAY Sports Coaches poll and winning four of their last five games without injured Caleb Wilson.  The Fayetteville Observer
