BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ Dirty Myrtle Wing Company closed its Fayetteville restaurant after owner Troy Bennett terminated the franchise agreement due to disputes with a local partner. The restaurant, located on Bragg Blvd and opened in Sept. 2024, was confirmed closed by a Feb. 10 Facebook post. The Fayetteville Observer
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ On Feb. 5, the Arts Council opened ArtsXL at 214 Burgess St., welcoming the Fayetteville Symphony Orchestra and Cumberland Choral Arts as its first residents (supporters hope the space becomes a creative hub for local artists and nonprofits). CityView
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Dr. Stanley T. Wearden, president of Methodist University, announced his retirement effective June 30, 2027. He led the school since 2019 and helped launch a four-year medical school with Cape Fear Valley Health set to start this summer — a move that requires careful succession planning. - ➤ Cumberland County Schools requested $610 million for new construction, repairs and facility upgrades including a new E.E. Smith High School and three new elementary projects. The proposal now moves to county commissioners and will be scheduled based on coordination & market conditions. CityView
- ➤ Fayetteville Technical Community College marked the completion of its new emergency responder training center on Wednesday (designed to boost local preparedness) for Cumberland County and eastern North Carolina. CityView
- ➤ Facing $800 million in repairs, the Cumberland County School Board approved a plan on Monday to close, demolish and consolidate several schools + the board has asked the County Commissioners for $300 million and will hold public meetings to gather community input. WRAL
