- ➤ J'Nae Clotter, a junior at E.E. Smith High, was honored as one of The Fayetteville Observer’s 2026 Future Black History Makers; she excels academically and athletically and serves on her school’s swim team + leads in art clubs and honor societies. The Fayetteville Observer
- ➤ Marlie Thomas, 11, at William H. Owen Elementary is named as a Future Black History Maker for excellence in academics, sports, and community service. She leads Beta Club volunteer work while balancing studies and sports like soccer, basketball, and tennis — inspiring her peers with both leadership and style. The Fayetteville Observer
- ➤ Brendan McAllister, a 13-year-old seventh grader at Seventy-First Classical Middle, was named a 2026 Future Black History Maker for his work on local elections + early mental health advocacy. His efforts show civic leadership that inspires peers. The Fayetteville Observer
- ➤ Laila M. Borders, a seventh-grader at Pine Forest Middle, was named a Future Black History Maker by The Fayetteville Observer for her academic excellence and leadership in school activities. - ➤ Donnell Carter, a fifth-grader at Howard Hall Elementary, was named a Future Black History Maker for his academic excellence, musical talent and resilience. - ➤ Tamaryn Locklear, a senior at Jack Britt High School, was named a 2026 Future Black History Maker for her athletic performance, academic achievements and leadership on the volleyball court; she will study sports medicine at Winston-Salem State to become a physical therapist—continuing her service to the community. - ➤ Isaiah-Emmanuel Asemota, a 17-year-old senior at Cumberland Polytechnic, was named a 2026 Future Black History Maker for his leadership in school clubs and community mentoring (including his University Playbook initiative). GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Fayetteville residents voiced concerns at a public meeting today about proposed data centers that might strain water and power resources and boost utility costs. - ➤ County commissioners hired SfL+a Architects and Turner and Townsend to lead planning for the Crown Theatre and arena renovation, with a construction manager to be chosen in March and a pre-planning conference scheduled for April.
