He aims to become an aerospace engineer in the military while actively engaging in local community events.
Dhakir Haskins, a 16-year-old senior at Cumberland International Early College, was named one of The Fayetteville Observer’s 2026 Future Black History Makers for his public speaking and academic excellence.
He plans to become an anesthesiologist and volunteers by providing meals to the homeless.
Gabi Quick, a senior at Massey Hill Classical High School, was named a Future Black History Maker today for her academic excellence and leadership in student government and debate.
Her achievements + dedication highlight a bright future for Fayetteville students.
AJ Cook, a junior at Douglas Byrd High, is recognized as a Future Black History Maker for his academic achievements, athletic performance, and community involvement — a testament to his kind heart and leadership.
He looks ahead to a future in physical therapy or professional sports while inspiring his peers.
Eighth-grader Amar'e Wall (14) from Spring Lake Middle School was named a Future Black History Maker for his academic excellence and leadership in the Beta and Yearbook Clubs.
He plans to pursue an NBA career or culinary arts at Virginia State.
Jeremiah Northe, 10, a fifth-grader at William H.
Owen Elementary, was named a Future Black History Maker for his leadership in school events — including Black History Month and Veterans Day — and work ethic. He aims to become a meteorologist and professional soccer player, earning praise from his parents.
Londyn Young, a seventh-grader at Seventy-First Classical Middle, is one of The Fayetteville Observer’s 2026 Future Black History Makers for her achievements in competitive dance.
She competes with Cumberland Dance Academy and has earned awards and scholarships for her talent.
Aubree Hill, a first-grader at Lake Rim Elementary and a young model, is named a Future Black History Maker for her classroom leadership and community kindness.
Her dedication in balancing academics, modeling, and extracurricular pursuits shows local pride in rising talent.
Second-grader Anthony Butts III (8) of Ed Baldwin Elementary in Hope Mills was named a Future Black History Maker today after showing leadership both in the classroom and on the field.
His strong athletic skills and respectful attitude set a positive example for peers, his mother reported.
Soleil Hall, a sophomore at Gray's Creek High in Hope Mills, was named a Future Black History Maker by the Fayetteville Observer for her award-winning research in Agriscience and community service.
She earned state first place three times and maintains an A average.

Cape Fear Valley Health CEO Michael Nagowski announced his retirement effective July 1 after 18 years of service—during which he expanded the system and advanced plans for a new medical school—with COO Dan Weatherly taking over as interim CEO to ensure a smooth transition.
