- ➤ A local business owner is partnering with Deep Creek Outfitters to organize a volunteer cleanup of the Cape Fear River on Feb. 7 from 8 a.m. to noon. Volunteers will meet at Deep Creek Outfitters and clean a river stretch from Interstate 295 to Lock 3. The Fayetteville Observer
- ➤ The annual MLK Day Parade in Fayetteville has been postponed because of safety issues, and the committee is working to secure a new date. Organizers said the change was needed to protect participants — including volunteers and children. WRAL
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Fayetteville officials approved plans for an 83,000 sqft Black Voices Museum downtown to empower Black voices; the design includes galleries and terraces (with a metal screen featuring lyrics from Lift Every Voice and Sing), and construction is set to begin in 2029 with private investment following Jan. 5 council vote. The Fayetteville Observer
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Fort Bragg now offers a full-time commissary delivery service to military families, soldiers and veterans living within a 20-mile radius. Orders placed online include a grocery cost, delivery fee and surcharge, and service at the North Post commissary will begin mid-to-late January (the South Post already serves customers). SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Five Iron Golf is reviving the Crosby Clambake indoor golf tournament starting Jan. 12. Qualifying rounds run through Jan. 31 at Five Iron Golf locations in the area with top players advancing to finals on a simulated Pebble Beach course from Feb. 9-20. The Fayetteville Observer
- ➤ The first week of high school sports ended Jan. 10 with Jack Britt hosting its annual Boneyard Bash where wrestling champions emerged alongside strong play at Fayetteville Christian’s inaugural Warrior Classic (part of the 910Preps Athlete of the Week poll).
