- ➤ The Massey Hill Lions Club will host its 53rd Shuck’n for Sight Oyster Roast on Jan. 31 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 1613 Camden Road. Tickets cost $50 and must be purchased in advance via local stores (Massey Hill Drug Store or Classic Coiffure’s) to fund vision care. Up & Coming Weekly
- ➤ Veteran Brian Peate now manages Cleland Ice Rink, where he is expanding skating programs & hosting monthly college hockey games starting in January to offer service members, families, and the public a year-round space to enjoy local recreation. Up & Coming Weekly
- ➤ A Fayetteville nonprofit is set to launch the city's first tiny home village for homeless veterans to provide safe housing. The project breaks ground within the next six months (six fully furnished one-bedroom homes, approx. 400 sqft each) and will welcome the first veterans by 2027. ABC 11
- ➤ YMCA of the Sandhills is marking 175 years by lowering its join fee to $1.75 and offering special programs this January at its Fayetteville branch, including swim lessons starting Jan. 5 and a hockey night on Jan. 10. - ➤ Mid-Carolina Senior Games will start with an opening day at Methodist University Monarch Stadium that includes a torch lighting ceremony and registration; in April, they will hold over 30 events—from power walking to arts displays—to encourage fitness and community spirit among seniors. - ➤ The Hoops & Dreams Showcase at Methodist University drew 1,600 fans on Nov. 28–29.
